Question:
Is it time some of us stood up and be counted?

This is a British question or should I say a question to all fair minded English men and women.

Is it now about time all fair minded English men and women stood up and publicly thanked the police, ambulance crews and fire service personnel for doing a good job.

That is more than I can say for our political intelligentsia like Boris Johnson,David Cameron,Ed Miliband and Harriet Harman who were late coming off their holidays to make a belated appearance.

It is too late for Boris and his adherents roaming the streets of London with brooms, brushes and mops in a vain effort to claim the 'moral high ground'!

So am I out of order in thanking our brave policemen and police women along with the fire service and ambulance crews for the public service they have given during these public disturbances?

Or is there anyone on Yahoo answers who supports the riotous mob?

Robert C.. as always your question is always to the point. We forget only too often, the people on the front line so to speak, who carry out their duties on our behalf and thereby receive the full force of the atrocities we have witnessed. So on that basis, I support you and everything you stand for.

As for our politicians, well we have said that many times, they have lost the plot to govern this once great nation. They stand in front of cameras, preaching their party politics, without making an once of sense in relation to the destruction by the thugs, they have allowed to domineer our streets and our way of ordinary life, which we are all entitled to have.

I get so angry, when politicians hug the TV screens and instead of facing the facts as they are, they spell out their party propaganda which gives no answer to the problems.

As from me to you, I have always respected your views and I am sure there are many more that do.

Have a peaceful day, friend.

There are three issues here. I will stand by anyone brave enouh to don a uniform ir persue a calling that involves selfless and courageous action in the defence others no question.

That our politicos are the milk sops we already knew them to be us no surprise. Boris was only put forward by the present government as a strategic pawn. If he won it would be claimed a mass swing for the Torys. If not they could claim it was 'only Borris' and he was bound to lose.

Third every English citizen must deplore both the violence and the reasons that caused them. And I'm sure you'll join me in being sickens by anyone attempting to make political gain out of the destruction and loss of life. Starting with the police shootings onwards. That's were we have to visit to find cause and whether a foolish few wrought countrywide mayhem in their wake.

In short I believe suggesting that questioning the police over their activities dosent mean I'd support the riots. Absolutely the opposite. I do however support the rule if law and that it should be applied to all. That is aftet all the hard one English Way. So yes I support your position and thank members of our civilian services of all ethnic origin for their outstanding faith and duty.

Hi,

I think you are right to a certain extent, but i still don't think that our forces are doing enough in the right way. I think if our government could give our police back the powers they once had, things might of turned out different.

I can understand the groups of average Joe's trying to defend their towns from the mindless yobs who are rioting, but according to reports, those people are in the wrong as well even though they set out to be a help to police etc.

I feel sorry for the firemen cause every time they put out a fire there is another one not too far away.

And for the ambulance crews and hospitals - like our nhs wasn't stretched enough already.

Absolutely right.

It makes me furious when the media try and blame the Police for the riots!

They are all braying on about how the Police should have been harder when these incidents started. Apart from the practical difficulties of suddenly conjuring up thousands of riot police, if they had - the Media would have been full of stories about Police over-reaction.

These men and women are putting their lives on the line to protect us all. Including the journos who write this offensive rubbish.

I will see if there is an e-petition on this issue and post a link here if there is.

EDIT: No existing petition! I have submitted one. will post the link when I get one.
