If you're homeless, people will probably want to help you get a job, so that you can live somewhere. Not all people are cruel. Also, why don't other people go get jobs? i mean its not that hard. Teenagers have jobs at McDonalds, why can't more people do that? You gotta start somewhere.

the first thing i learned when helping with homeless people was they did indeed have jobs. homeless and jobless are not not exclusive conditions. having a job does not put you over the poverty line, and does not qualify you for a rental.

Did you ever see the Seinfield episode where Kramer tries to put the homeless to work by giving them rickshaws? They steal the rickshaws.

Anyway, most of the homeless you see on the streets have psychological problems that prevent them from holding a job. Years ago they would have all been confined to mental institutions, but taxpayer de-funding and the courts, by striking down the loitering laws, changed that 30 years ago. You cannot stay at homeless shelters permanently. Some are only open when the weather is bad.

Homeless people who can hold jobs do not usually remain homeless for extended periods of time.

There are a few reasons, some to do with basic hygiene, its hard to keep clean and go for a job when you live in your car or on the street, people don't want to hire someone who bathes in gas station sinks.

Teenagers get jobs at McDonalds because they give them jobs like that no just because there is no pay or benefits to speak of but because they are interchangable cogs in the corporate thinking.

Leave one today and get another tomorrow. But you still can't afford an apartment, your family can't live on it, you can't start when you once had a lot, and lost your home. McDonalds doens't hire college guys with degrees, they look for kids, ever hear the words 'overqualified"?

In this recession there are whole families living in cars, this is very different from the usual homeless man, usually with mental problems, often veterans.

People are homeless for a reason. Usually there on the street because they have mental problems or no education. This is why most of them don't have jobs.

Because if they could get jobs, they wouldn't be homeless anymore. Most of the homeless suffer from mental illness or psychological disorders that make them even more unfit for employment than immature teenagers.

Do you think unemployment is so high because people don't want to work? Have you ever been unemployed? Or employed?
