10% of male prisoners and 20% of women prisoners in this country are foreign nationals. I make that approx 8500! It would cost a lot to physically deport that lot. The places would then be filled with "our" lot. And no money would be saved. So while I appreciate the sentiment in the question, this sadly would not produce the required saving. Stop the influx of foreigners in the first place, integrate those that are here as best we can and make our prisons places of real punishment for all prisoners? Unfortunately, it is a fact that those treated badly in prison come out even more resentful of authority and even more likely to re-offend. So in conclusion... as with all todays national problems, there is no easy answer as you suggest. But hey, who cares?! Keep out of trouble and look after yourself and your family and keep smiling.......................

First, you cannot 'empty our prisons' because there will still be many British (that still includes Scots) prisoners filling them. Secondly, deporting non-British criminals does not always serve the cause of justice because, as some have pointed out, their home country might not keep them in jail.
The problem of what to do with foreigners who commit crimes here is a hard one to solve. In many cases, the living conditions provided here, even in prison, are better than found in the prisoners' homeland! How then can it be punishment for them? The only way to make it a punishment is for the British govt to opt out of the human rights conventions of the UN and EU and make our prisons for non-British inmates really hell, e.g. bread and water, chain gangs in the quarries, slopping up, etc. No libraries, free Open University courses, television room, snooker tables, air-conditioned gyms, etc. That will help cut down costs as well. Does that sound too draconian?

I was listening to a Radio 4 doc a few weeks back that was about American policy on deporting 2nd offenders.
Took a very subjective approach .... but was amusing to hear how upset the deportees were having to be back in their own country.
Something certainly needs to be done.
If i break the law in another country i wouldnt expect them to do anything other than kick me out.

Yeah why not?
We now have a reversal of the 18th and 19th century fashion of transporting prisoners to OZ. They're now sending us their pervs.
The only thing that bothers me about sending prisoners back home, is that the UK.gov have been giving these criminals £1,000 to take home with them. I mean, is this any way to treat us honest tax-payers? To give our hard earned revenues to thieves, murderers and pervs???

that would save taxes, yet in addition kill many harmless people. on the grounds that 1973, over one hundred twenty people have been launched from dying row after new information confirmed they have been harmless. lots of that has been using new DNA attempting out that grew to become into not obtainable in the 70s. learn coach we'd save greater money by scrapping the dying penalty, and putting each and every physique into life without parole. this protects on facilties, guards and the VERY high priced trial device required for dying situations. whether somebody serves 50 years generally inhabitants, we'd save money over attempting to execute them. it fairly is not fairly easily worth the money. merely lock them up and throw away the foremost. Oh - and enable them to out in the event that they prove later to be harmless.

Hate to break the news to you but many American born folks are born speaking another language from other American born parents. So, you cannot legally deport legal Americans especially those born here.

Blatantly. I can't believe it isn't happening already.
You waive all rights to stay in Britain when you break the law. It's just poor manners - these people are our 'guests' (although many are bloody well uninvited). You wouldn't go to your friends' house for dinner and steal their jewellery, would you?

Deport them so other counries can take care fo that problem? People who commit crimes in one region or against that region should remain prisioner IN that region.

Yes that would be a good idea unfortunately our government is run by complete incompetent morons who value the human rights of foreign murderers and rapists more than its own citizens.
