Mr Blair stated that the Catholic Church Adoption service cannot 'discriminate' against same sey partners applying to their adoption agency, even though it goes against the beliefs of the church... What about Christian rights?

Lefties don't like religions, so they are crushing it. The government has no business creating laws which criminalises hundreds of years of Christian tradition and doctrine. The RC church wasn't trying to impose it doctrine on anyone else. The COE has already been cowed by the lefty/PC/feminist brigade. Of all groups, you would have thought that Gays would have understood all about oppression. Expect more anti-religion laws from this government. They don't even seem to care whether the Muslims agree or not. They are actually supporting the RCC.

The new rules concerning same sex adoption are part of New Labour's equality laws which set out to end discrimination. The Catholic Church have twenty one months in which to come in line with the new adoption laws or close down their adoption agencies. This is a more than generous offer by government. Usually when a law is passed in the House of Commons it becomes 'the law' and law breakers thus face a penalty should they break that law.
In the final analysis, the House of Commons rules UK and not the Catholic Church.
Beware, for the statue of Oliver Cromwell stands outside the House of Commons. This is what the Catholic Church is really dealing with, a near Puritan England.

I don't know where he gets his rules...but the Catholic church has already stated that they're getting out of the adoption business, thus...they can cram what they think. I know the Pope will not let this get out of hand...and they may be trying that in their country, but I'm certain the Pope will not agree to it. That's part of our Constitution and just like the non-denominational churches reserve the right to not employ someone who is NOT a Born Again Christian, the Catholic church can also reserve that right.

The government passed a LAW, it may be a bad one, but once passed it's law I'm afraid, Blair cannot say it's OK for the Catholic church not to comply, that's the trouble with this government, it's passed far too many laws, without thinking the laws through! It's obvious that Gay rights is a minefield for legislation, I remember when it was Illegal to be Homosexual, not that long ago, so it takes time for public opinion to change,We all have rights but must obey the laws of the land, otherwise it's Anarchy!
By the way Chloe, we don't have a constitution in the UK!

This government again and again has shown its contempt for true freedom the way this act has been implemented shows this. The state has now thrown out common sense and traditional morality to appease a minority . Also it treats children as lab rats in a social experiment what about the interests of the child?. As soon as this government is removed the better so we can scrap this piece of legislation.

The key here is this....Does the Catholic Church Adoption Service accept any public money or require public sanctions to do it's job. If you have any public involvement, you must respect all the public. This does not have an effect on Christian's rights. No one is making Christians accept homosexuals, it is simply that you cannot discriminate against them. There is no legal basis that homosexuals are bad parents. That is the law. And the church has to obey it like everyone else.

Do the children involved get a say in who adopts them ? If they are happy to be adopted by same sex couples then fine ... but equally they should be able to discriminate in favour of the upbringing they want.

like they all said christianity has and is being hijacked , im not a christian but i understand why they would not want gay people adopting these children through there agency for them to allow it , says everything they beleive in is rubbish . the point is from what i can see like it says in the bible christianity has been hijacked and the its quite scary how the bible prophesises this.

I completely agree with you. It would be interestng to see how a devout Catholic couple would fair when approaching a more 'secular' agency seeking to adopt.
What disappoints me the most is the fact the the government consistently ignores endless studies and think tanks, all of whom agree that the best place to raise a child is in a hetro-sexual marriage.
It seems that for the first time that Christains have become the persecuted minority in the UK.

What ever happened to the Church of England? Does it still exist? Does England even exist anymore?

The Church cannot opt out of the law. It cannot pick and choose which elements of the discrimination act it wants to follow and which it doesn't. You ask what about Christian rights, like you are some kind of special species. I ask you this, what about treating people all the same, regardless of gender, race, sexuality or faith? It would be nice if we could see some of those so called Christian actions in practice, to benefit the children who need loving parents, regardless of how they live their lives.

Has anyone considered the 'rights' of the children concerned? It worries me that their future happiness my be compromised and, for this reason, I think that the RC church is right to air its concerns.

trouble is the rules are made as they go along. If its a vote builder he`s too late

What Christian rights?...the right to discriminate?...the right to pre-determine peoples sex lives and place moral judgements upon them?...is that a right then???
Give it up. Blair is absolutely right for once. There is too much of people claiming rights they don't have in this country. Some people think they have the right to racially abuse people because of free speech...well that's another one...there is no such right!!!!

You can't give everyone their rights. You should always keep the minority of people happy. Not like I'm pro or anti the decision as it doesn't effect me at all.
