I am in Bangkok alot so I read the local papers there. The Thai govt really doesnt have a lot of interest in it though there are many NGO s dealing with it on various levels.

Southeast asia has been a refugee crisis for decades now.The local people have to a large degree become quite insensitized to it so I forgive them their apathy.

Going back hundreds of years,Thailand has always had friction with Burma(Myanmar since the sacking of Ayuthayya way back .

Laos has gotten a bum wrap by the Americans since the Veitnam war and seeing as they have been the victim of the largest bombing campaign ever ,the country is still a mess and to make things worse it is a communist country.

Cambodia is still in a state of mental apathy as many of the ex members of Pol pots regime are actually the ruling members of the current admin.

The key country for ending the crisis, of course, is Thailand. For Myanmar. I'd say next to none. For Laos, there has been some international movement recently, so I believe that the return of refugees to Laos will at least be postponed.

I'm aware of it even though im young, maybe that's because my mother and father were refugees of Laos during the time the communists were taking over.
