but the local mp from hackney was trying to prove this wrong ...so why was she walking along the main high street with a crowd of people and then when she proceeded to walk onwards through a council estate the camera crew and reporter were banned access onto the estate. ?!?
why not show footage of the mp fromhacney on cct camera walking on her own after midnight, and see how she survives walking through the streets of london then.

But who was she complaining to? As Home Secretary, surely it's her job to do something about it, or at least to present measures to Parliament to combat it?

My guess is, she was walking with Keith Vaz et al in order to show solidarity. Who knows why the film crew was banned from the estate.

As it goes, she made the same point weeks ago on the late night politics show with Andrew Neil. She has a point. Most streets in London are safe to walk at night, irrespective of whether you are a man or a woman.

I suspect Dianne Abbott would be safe wherever she walked. I wouldn't want to take her on!!!

As for the Home Secretary, was it the baddies she was worried about bumping into or the police. Not a lot of difference in her case.

secure? No. exceedingly at that hour. that's while the bars close. won't have the capacity to guarantee your secure practices, yet who's to declare? i've got been on the streets of Hollywood at evening, and lived to tell the story. yet i'm 6'5", and perchance my length is a little greater intimidating.

I've walked the streets of various major cities of England and Scotland at night alone, and I have felt very safe.

I admit crime is a problem, but the fear of crime is a much bigger problem. Law abiding people should fear the tabloids and the government more than they should fear the reality!

By nature of her position theremay be those who are out to get the Home Secretary. For most of us (despite the media hype) it is perfectly safe most of the time

It's about time the Home Secretary did something about making our streets safe to walk on again. Sorting violent crime is not rocket science.

Be afraid - I would not like to meet that horse faced lady on the streets - much prefer an honest to goodness hooligan instead.
