Question:
Has anyone else lost a family member to a marijuana overdose?
2007-06-05 05:19:29 UTC
Sadly, my cousin overdosed on pot. He was just a kid. 19 years old, & a senior in high school. Everyone loved him. He was a football player, and an active member in our church.

One day during his senior year, he went to a party. Some liberal parents had gone out of town, & left their child unattended (why am I not surprised by the irresponsible parents) so of course, he threw a party. Well when my cousin arrived the kids were drinking, smoking, & behaving poorly.

Since most of these kids were passing around a marijuana cigarette, my cousin felt out of place. At first, he refused to smoke. But the kids kept putting peer pressure on him by saying things like, "one puff won't hurt you" & "all the cool kids are doing it." Finally, my cousin succumbed to the pressure, & took a puff.

Immediately he went into convulsions. Then he stopped breathing. Finally, his heart just gave out. By the time the paramdeics arrived it was too late. My Cousin was DOA!

Kids, learn to JUST SAY NO!

No, nobody else has lost a family member to marijuana overdose, and your story smacks of bovine fecal material.

How do you know the parents were liberal?

A nineteen year old is not a kid, he's a young adult, thus his parents weren't being irresponsible.

How do you know he "felt out of place"? Either this is BS or you were there, and if you were there, you could have prevented this.

You say he "took a puff" and "went immediately into convulsions". It has been established by experimentation in mice that the dosage of marijuana necessary to cause an overdose is 40,000 times the amount needed to get high.

There has never, in all of recorded history been a documented case of marijuana overdose leading to death. If this story is true, then I'm sure it made the papers. Please cite the newspaper article. If you can, then I apologize. If you can't, I'm calling you a liar.

This little tale shows me that you have no idea how Mairijuana works... This never happened.. The brain actually has Receptors specifically for THC. The human brain evolved to consume marijuana. Without a certain amount of the drug in our lifetimes the brain chemistry can become unstable. 19? in high school? But also just a kid that hangs out at your church... he happened across a big party that sounded like alot of fun....In recorded medical history no one has died of a Marijuana over dose. To much and you just fall asleep....So does he have a name? You write this like you barely knew him.. or barely cared? Or maybe you copy and pasted this from some stupid website. If you wanna know about drugs go to this website.

I'm guessing that someone laced the "joint, blunt, pipe, bong", whatever he was smoking" with something pretty strong. I have never heard of someone that overdosed on smoking weed. I have seen people smoke so much and all they do is either pass out,or get very hungry. I am sorry to hear that you lost your cousin but their is something that you don't know. I think you really need to find out if your cousins friends made him do something else! Good Luck!

alrighty-- I took a class in college about drugs and America-- it is physically impossible to die of a pot overdose-- your body will pass out first-- there has NEVER been a reported death. However, it could very possibly be that the pot was laced with something which very well could have killed your cousin. I am really sorry about your cousin and that you were misinformed.

Everyone here knows this is BS, this story even sounds like Conservative scare tactics. LIBERAL parents? No one talks like that! Anyway if someone were to die like that, it was because the pot started some kind of chain reaction to a preexisting condition because their body couldn't handle it. BOOOOOOGUUUS. You have to smoke 3/4 your body weight to OD on pot.

I'd love to see the coroner's report on that. Unless there was a foreign substance in the joint, which is very possible, this sounds freakishly rare. I'm sorry for your loss, but trying to scare kids by stories of immediate death by pot just discredits you from talking about the real dangers and drawbacks of the drug.

Unless he had a whole in his heart, was epileptic or had some unrelated brain hemorrhage you story is a lie. On its own marijuana has never killed anyone.

Solvent abuse on the other hand can cause death in the manner you described, I think you have been lied to about what he did.

First of all, I doubt your cousin was such a perfect little angel...Second, peer pressure is just a myth used by weak idiots to avoid blame...Third, he was probably allergic to pot or something else in that joint.

No, that has never happened to anyone that i know or ever heard of. is this supposed to be some kind of joke? Im having a hard time believing this story.

PROPAGANDA ALERT!!!

There is absolutely NO documented cases of marijuana overdose resulting in death.

Kids, learn to research the FACTS and think for yourself. Do not listen to people who want to control your actions by telling you lies. That means they think you are not capable of making an informed decision for yourself.
2007-06-05 05:23:24 UTC
I'm pretty sure it's not possible to overdose on that under any normal circumstances. Especially with just one puff.

LOL ......overdosed on marijuana? That would be a first!!! More than likely he OD on alcohol, a much more common and plausible event.
2007-06-05 05:27:27 UTC
It has been proven that the LD50 of marijuana is about 10,000 times the amount of alcohol. It is impossible to OD on it.

I'm pretty sure thats impossible unless he had some sort of weird allergic reaction, although I've never heard of anyone being allergic to weed.....
