Australia has a parliamentary system of government, and thus has a prime minister as head of government, not a president. The first Australian prime minister was Edmund Barton of the Protectionist party who took office 1 January 1901 and left office 24 September 1903.

Australia's government isn't headed by a president. The head of state is the Prime Minister. The first one was Edmund Barton, who served from 1901 to 1903.
