I feel bad for the people of hurican katrina but there are other homeless people in the united states.?

The people of katrina were given debit cards to get their lives back together. Not all but many of these people went to strip clubs, bars and casinos and never bothered to help there children get their lives back together. I am a single mother who had lung surgery. Money was tight. We lived off daughter child support. My furnice broke down. I did not have the money to repair it. I called the county for assistance and was told all the federal grant money this years is being sent to help the victims of Katrina. So I had to skip a car pmt to pay for my furnice to be fixed. I think the Katrina victimes have been helped enough, and there are others who need help besides them. Do you agree? I spent over 30 days in hosp and fell behind on mortage so called the company. Was told only those who were in Katrina can get an special extention and lowere payments and lower interest rates. Do youy think that is fair?

You know, I agree. I feel so sorry for them but almost any big city you go to you will see a homeless person. Do you think that we should just give them debit cards too? No, they can get a job. Come on now. I am not saying that the people of katrina didn't loose anything but you are right they went to bars, casinos and stuff when they should be buying material for their houses, clothes, food... the whole situation was shady to begin with

Sorry for your circumstances and I hope all your bad luck starts to reverse and go the other way. As a Florida residents we have had our fair share of hurricanes and you know very few residents are still having FEMA take care of them. Perhaps it was the mentality of the residents that make the difference. One story the stuck out in my mind was of 5 recovering addicts, all 5 were in a mental hospital that was destroyed in by the flooding. So what did the do? They all hitch hiked and walked to Texas. No sitting and whining and look for hand outs, bitching for cameras or pointing fingers. They laced up their sneakers and moved for themselves. So what does this tell me of some of the Katrina "victims"? They like to be victims and are wallowing in the mud enjoying it. Mississippi residents are nearly back to 100% because they just did it what had to be done instead of sitting around complaining!



And of course those that do need a helping hand in the mean time are going without. Every once and while everyone needs just a bit of help and it should be there for them but those the abuse the system just take and take....sad really.

I am a Katrina survivor. I lived on the Gulf Coast in Mississippi. My children and I lost everything we had and received VERY LITTLE money from Fema or anyone else. As far as Mississippi being back 100% that is false. Yes I did pick up and get on with things and not sit around and whine but Mississippi is nowhere near back to normal. The help that Katrina victims received is nowhere near what people assume it was or is, NOWHERE EVEN close to what people assume, people are still living in tents and it is not by choice. What is not fair to me is downsizing someone elses tradegy to make yours look worse.

Do you realize that quite a few "Katrina" victims have come out in the end as being well off and in a better position than they were in the first place? The whole system WAS supposed to be to help them get back on their feet sure , but nobody in power ever said when "Enough" was! I agree with you 100%

Anyone who is still homeless because of Katrina is that way by choice!



They chose to not look for work, they chose not to find a new home, they chose to sit on their butt's and spend their government check.



This is the same reason that the Rich get Richer and the Poor get Poorer, because the Poor continue to do the things that make them Poor (live to or beyond their means) and the Rich continue to do the things that make them rich (living within their means and saving money and getting insurance for unforeseen events like hurricanes).

No, I don't think it's fair, especially since a large number of the "Katrina" victims, didn't have to be, when the authority's told them to leave, they should have! Duh!!

Maybe we should worry more about the homeless people in OUR country, before we go helping out other country's,

then we would have plenty of money to take care of OUR problems, HERE, in the USA.

I AGREE! Those people are in my prayers, and I wouldn't wish their plight on anyone, but I know people less than 5 miles from me who have no idea what their children will eat tonight, or how they can keep from being evicted from the city owned slum they live in. Enough! Kat's victims have been helped. Let's move on!

Texas opend its doors to Katirna victims, food , shelter and anything else they needed...but when Rita came we was lucky to find a shelter to take us....I lost mine and my kids things in beamont....not much was said about us...face texas didnt have much room left for its own cuz new orleans had most of it

some of those who got debit cards, did not have anything to loose. so I guess it is some form of justice perhaps`?
