Are there any government assistance programs for a housing down payment?

We need $2650 to move by June 1st. Is there any government assistance programs that help middle class, white, married couples with a child? I've never taken anything from the government and I think it is my turn... we need to move out and we can't seem to save any money. Like most Americans, we are living paycheck to paycheck and can't save any money. We are dong what we can to make some extra cash (my husband is a carpenter on the side and I am a graphic designer who does freelance work in addition to our full time jobs). No one is spending any money for services now due to the economy so we can't get any side work.

Does anyone know of any government programs or grants we can apply for and how to go about doing it??

Depends on where you live. In my state (Minnesota) some Counties have special programs for downpayment assistance, and some cities also have their own programs. There is also a national program called the Nehemiah program that helps with closing costs.

Try calling your local Housing Commission.

there may be some community classes, however the federal government stopped handing out money for domicile purchases a protracted time. touch some community lenders to work out if there may be some thing you qualify for.
