Why is it the only solution for liberals is more government?
to address your questions I don't believe government should be the solutions to most of the topics you mentioned.
I believe their responsibility should be to secure our borders, and protect our interests abroad.
As far as Iraq, and Afghanistan and elsewhere I believe our troops need to finish the mission. The libs scream the mission was WMD's.. My view is and was the mission was a stable country in the middle of a hotbed of radical islam. I prefer the battle remain "over there" so muslim nutjobs aren't bombing cities on our shores. Iraq is stablizing. Granted our leaders made a few mistakes early on about understanding the complexities of the mission, that said many adjustments have made and impact. I believe the Iraqi people need to deal with the corrupt politicians as much as we do.
Fact - Our energy needs are inherently dependent on foreign "entanglements". This is because of the stranglehold of environmentalists have on politicians.
People who come in this country without going through the legal channels are violating law. Why is it liberals are willing to be complicit in criminal activity when it is something that will bolster their constiuency?
I am all for Tax Reform and Social security reform..
I believe the government needs to get real about paying it's bills, I don't like the fact that 30% of my paycheck goes into one form of government or another.
We should take serious efforts to privatize social security and close that and other 1930s fascist style ponzi schemes,..
Free health care? NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE. Someone pays. Liberal have made it their tact to steal from one class of people to give to another class of people for political favor!!
If you want to see the outcome of government run healthcare look at the Veterans administration. It's a failure. I've got many good friends who are vets who have to sit for hours to see if they are eligible for services. I prefer to be able to decide who I see, and what kind of services I need.. I should not have to worry about whether it is eligible for payment. If I choose to pay for services out of pocket that should be our choice.
Medicare/Medicaid are 1960s extensions of ponzi schemes that have increased the cost of healthcare substantially because of compliance issues demanded by the fascists in the bureaucracies.
Taxes should be level. No one person should pay more as a percentage of their income. I truthfully favor the Fair tax. It does more for the "poor" in terms of tax savings then anything. The only downside is politicians lose tax policy as political leverage.
"A democracy is always temporary"
About the time our original 13 states adopted their new constitution, in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:
"A democracy is always temporary in nature ; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."
"The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years.
During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:
1. From bondage to spiritual faith;
2. From spiritual faith to great courage;
3. From courage to liberty;
4. From liberty to abundance;
5. From abundance to complacency;
6. From complacency to apathy;
7. From apathy to dependence;
8. From dependence back into bondage "
Think about the statement of Alexander Tyler in light of your views. And tell me where we are in the progression?
I believe we are in step 6 and 7.
edit:
michr In light of your edit, the vitriolic nature of Cons vs Libs doesn't take prisoners. I for one believe fully government is the problem. Not the people and their views. The belief that the government can solve it illogical. Any time government does something it costs more, then private enterprise.
edit 2: michr, unfortunately "defining policy" and running things are where the politicians are failing. Some politicians favor fascist style control of healthcare and other free enterprise entities where government tells private enterprise who they can serve and how much they should get paid. I will continue calling it what it is fascism. Policy definition and government control of private enterprise IS fascism. I do not like the view of things to come if that occurs ..
