Com one people wake up! People still drink anyway when they are 18 even younger 16! I think we are fooling ourselves thinking the 21 age limit is working. I also think its hypocritical. As you know the government can draft people. May not be right now but the fact remains every young person is obligated to serve there country but you can't drink for your country. If you can't trust an 18 year old with a couple a beers. Why would you trust an 18 year old with an M16 and grenades lol. its just absurd part of it in the united states young people are not political. I think at one point only 6% of young people voted.

here brings my other argument. Other European countries have learned to just deal with it. They have a nanny state there too but at least they don't discriminate against young people. Instead of a 21 age drinking limit. They instead they have higher standards to get a driver license just like its harder to get a gun. I think we should judge people on an individual basis not a blanket statement because I am young. I just had a drink literally a few days ago. its just that your tax payer money is be wasted to enforce an unenforceable law.

A number of states allowed drinking at 18 some years ago, but the legal drinking age was raised to 21 in an effort to limit drinking and driving. Insurance company and police statistics demonstrate that the higher drinking age does in fact save lives.

Might raising the legal age to 23 save even more lives? Probably, but we cannot know for sure. The logical step from there would be to make all alcohol consumption illegal, but that was tried and did not work very well.

Yes, of course there are many under-age drinkers, and many legal drinkers are involved in auto accidents. No system is perfect, but in this case the 21 age limit seems superior to the 18 age limit.

I agree to a point! If 18 yr old acted as responsible as European teens it would be diff. College is a party on the folks dime. I think everything should be legal and left to parental discretion. An 18, or 20yr old for that matter in the states isn't very mature. Have you ever been over seas? I've spent yrs over seas. Different culture.

People kill people anyway even if there is a law against murder, so maybe that should be reason enough to legalize murder. And I would trust an 18 year old a lot less with an M16 and grenades if he consumed alcohol.

I do agree that setting the drinking age higher than the age of majority is absurd. Either raise the age of majority, or drop the age of drinking.

How can someone be legally responsible enough to own his home, be married, have children, own a business and fight for his country, but not have a beer?

Some 18 yr old are responsible. Most are not and you can see by the posts here how dumb some of them are.

If you have a problem with it get together other people who support your cause and protest not being able to buy alcohol that is the problem with you Americans you passively accept being treated like crap and you have no one the blame but yourselves.

You know why they wouldn't try that crap here in Europe? We don't mess about.
