I have to write a paragraph about the roles ancient Greece and rome played in our democracy. For Rome I am saying that they had the 12 tables of law which is like our constitution. Do you have any ideas on what I should say for ancient Greece?
Thank you

More specifically, Plato was an inspiration since democracy was not widespread in Greece and it failed over time. Plato's ideas about the limits of democracy and the dangers of full democracy were very influential. The founding fathers had very limited ideas about democracy. That is why under the original constitution, only those who were male, white, owned property and were over 21 could vote, and even then, they could only vote directly for members of the House of Representatives. The Senate was appointed by State Legislators, the President and Vice President were the two highest vote getters in the Electoral College, and the Supreme Court was appointed. The intent was to limit democracy.

The Greeks, it can be argued were the fathers of democracy. They were the first to try out democracy as a type of government system, actually, and the founding fathers partially used ancient democratic Greece as an example while writing the constitution.

There is no comparison possible between Ancient Greece and Rome.Ancient Greece started its Civilization around 2500 B.C. in the Cycladic Islands, from there to Crete and Santorini for the Minoan Civilization until its distruction around 1250 B.C..From there to the mainland Mycenaens and then to the City States (Classical) which is known in general as Ancient Greece. The Greeks gave the Romans everything spiritual and cultural. They had only their army and the man-power to construct great building-projects. Do not forget that when we talk about Rome we are talking about a big part of Europe ,Africa and Asia, some very big minds came from there and got Roman Citizenship. The Romans themselves saw the knowledge og Greek as a sign of culture.

The citizens of ancient Greece played a role in government (democracy) and modern voting methods came from them, they used to put clay balls in a bowl of the candidate they're voting for.

Good question, home work? Many of the patriots could read Greek as well as Vulcan (Latin). Greek literature was idolized at the time, that's why several cities and a few states have apolis in their names. Anyway, the colonies were tired of the oligarchy and a Republic and Democracy seemed the best alternative.
