My God what happened to the America I knew and loved?

About three months ago I posted a question it was “Imaging an America that fights a just war, wouldn’t that be something?” and in about six hours it was deemed offensive. This wasn’t what bothered me it was more the answers that I got. Other that one vary enthusiastic person that agreed with me, there were about 20 others that went something like “If you don’t like it go live in Russia” and my favorite “If you don’t like America then get out”. Now I never gave this a thought until now. I guess everyone really took it to heart when Bush said “If you aren’t with us you are agents us.” Now that I think of it there comments really shock me because it means that according to them if I don’t agree with every thing the government tells me then I’m un-American. Witch I think is the furthest from the truth being in American you have the right to free speech and you don’t have to blindly fallow our government were ever it tells you to go. I can’t believe that that many people think that way, for some reason I automatically think of prey WW2 Germany or Poland. I think of someone saying “I really don’t think that Hitler is right. He has no right to invade other countries and kill everyone.” I bet everyone that herd him said something like “How dear you question him” or “If you don’t like it go live in Russia”. So I guess my question is how many of the people that are fallowing the government blindly are going to one day open there eyes and say “My God what happened to the America I knew and loved?”

its gone. you can forget asking something like that here. the report button is yahoo's answer of Staples easy button. but i agree. this country cant even get along with its self so how can we get along with any one else? as far as it goes with people/neo cons telling you to move, thats their answer for everything. that is what americans do, they stand up for what they believe is wrong.

America has been trouble since the Civil War. It is now a quasi-fascist state, and most of the people in this country are brainwashed.



War and the military are what have ruined this country.



James Madison, our 4th president and one the the founding fathers of our country, said this:



"It is a universal truth that the loss of liberty at home is to be charged to the provisions against danger, real or pretended, from abroad."



Ah, what does he know. He was only the principle author of the constitution and drafted the Bill of Rights, the first 10 amendments to our constitution.



He also said this, and this sums up exactly what has happened in America.



"Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few."



It is time to wake up. The United States has over 700 military bases around the world, and we have executed over 250 military interventions since WWII alone. All of higher tax rates have been caused by war, specifically WWI and WWII. The highest income tax rate after WWII was 92% on all income over $200,000.



Yet many Americans are totally militaristic....



Remember Orwell....



they tell us that "slavery is freedom"...and the taxes will continue to be misspent until the majority realize it.

America has an enemy nobody really knows is there... the PRESS. They show you and tell you in the news what they want you to know and believe... one example: right after the invasion of Irak started i flew to Europe to visit my family... while watching the news they were showing some images of what was really happening in there (i will not get into details), my husband was with me and he had never been out of the states before. When he saw it he got shocked about the strong content of the images and the information that was being released... news like that one would have never been on the air in the US... specially the images... they think its all too strong for the viewers... well let me tell you something: The truth is sometimes unpleasent!

Im tired of being judged because i dont agree with the Gov's way to deal with things. I dont watch the news because they dont tell me half of whats going on, and Im tired of people who dont allow you to speak your mind because that means your an Anti-American...

I just hope people understand that this country needs someone who knows there are many things to do HERE... theres no need to get our noses in whats happening in foreign countries ( by the way, 80% of americans still think that Irak and all the countries of the middle east are in Africa... get a map people), gas prices, poberty, health care, why dont they do something about these things?... Unfortunately if we dont like it, we cant change it... and if we try to, we are called many things that dont even make sense.

To begin with, you need to learn how to express yourself properly. You cannot spell and you do not have a firm grasp on grammar. Next, are you an American? If not, that would explain your misspelled words and poor grammar. Now, since you don't sit in the Oval Office I imagine there is certain information that you and I are not privy to, which also means we cannot totally second guess any of our presidents regardless of which party they come from. I hate war, any war; but it is my job to support our armed service men of which I was married to one and I also was the sister, daughter and mother to one (not all the same one and not all the same branches of the service either).



I think we should all question our president, I think it is our job to do so, for if we don't we are likely to be led off of some cliff into a mess similar to the Jim Jones situation. Part of the reason we have three branches of government is to provide a system of checks and balances and sometimes it appears that isn't working as well as the framing fathers intended. But how can it when you look at the number of people they were dealing with compared to the population and the size of the geographical area our country encompasses now?



This country may have some flaws; but, it is still the best boat afloat and that may be what those folks were trying to say to you. If you are really fed up you are always welcome to jump ship. As for me, I will wear my life vest and man my station. I am proud to be aboard!

If you have a problem with the way this country has been ran for the last 8 years then all you have to do is vote democrat this election. Its the republicans that have caused this mess we are in.



Ps. Yes American was lied into a war by the Republican, but there is absolutely no comparison between Bush & Hitler.

Amen. I wonder the same thing. I guess the Republicans with their constant appeals to the absolute worst in people--their prejudice, their greed, their hatred, their blood lust, have encouraged it and actually made America into a bad country, and Americans into bad people. Not all, of course, just the ones who vote Republican. Good countries do not attack other countries to steal their oil. And even now we have Rove and Cheney over in Georgia goading them to attack Russia and our own corrupt, lying whoring press allowing our gvt. to leave the impression that it was Russia that attacked Georgia rather than Georgia that attacked Russia. So...empires come and empires go, and this one seems to have voted itself out of existence. Maybe its just as well it will soon be bankrupt and under the control of Communist China. Very stupid people, incredibly stupid, let this happen. Limbaugh fans.

America is still a great country and we all love it too. It is unfortunate that we trusted leaders who have become greedy and threw us to the wolves. We definitely need a drastic change to overcome our hardships. It is time to get rid of the power by voting democratic. They are the only party who will fight hard for us all. It seems that big corporations forgot that we the little people have made them rich, but now they got greedy and want it all. We do not need a monarchy now. So let your voice be heard loud and clear when you vote.

Yes. Ron Sider wrote a book years ago called "Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger" and a few after that addressing this very thing. He made the point (somewhere) that had the churches in the U.S. set aside one tenth of their total income, they could have gone most the way to eliminating hunger in the world. That was then...I'm sure the numbers have changed somewhat but there is still more we could do.
